General Ledger Accountant & Supervisor

PURPOSE

The General Ledger Accountant & Supervisor is responsible for all General Ledger areas relating to financial reporting. This position will be responsible for maintaining accounting principles, practices and procedures to ensure accurate and timely financial statements for the Selko business line in Indianapolis. This position will also be responsible for supervising 2 General Ledger specialist that are maintaining accounting principles, practices and procedures to ensure accurate and timely financial statements for the Companion Animal business line and for all the Head Offices Opcos in Highland. This position addresses tight deadlines and a multitude of accounting activities including general ledger preparation, year-end audit preparation, and the support of budget and forecast activities.

RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES

• Obtain and maintain a thorough understanding of the financial reporting and general ledger structure.
• Ensure an accurate and timely monthly, quarterly and year end close.
• Ensure the timely reporting of all monthly financial information.
• Assist in the daily banking requirements.
• Supports budget and forecasting activities.
• Monitors, analyzes, and improves department work to develop more efficient procedures and use of resources while maintaining a high level of accuracy.
• Provide back-up coverage for all team roles and functions.
• Responds to inquiries from the Director of Finance, Finance Managers, and other finance and firm wide managers regarding financial results, special reporting requests and the like.
• Work with the Shared Services GL Manager and FP&A Manager to ensure a clean and timely year end audit.
• Assist in development and implementation of new procedures and features to enhance the workflow of the department.
• Provide training to new and existing staff as needed.
• Work to achieve the goals and objectives set for you each year to enhance your professional development.
• Support Shared Services GL Manager with projects and workflow process improvements.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education
BA/BS in Business with an emphasis in Accounting

Experience

5-10 years of General Ledger experience with experience in managing both people and processes

TECHNICAL SKILLS
Must be PC proficient and able to thrive in a fast -pace setting. Experience in an ERP environment with the M3, One Stream or any other large automated accounting system a plus. Must have intermediate to advanced Excel skills as well strong experience with Microsoft Power BI and PowerPoint.

Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Ability to work in a team environment.

Strong interpersonal, supervisory and customer service skills required.

Ability to organize time, prioritize duties and meet deadlines.
