If so, Nutreco has an exciting opportunity for you as Lead Counsel for our North America and Companion Animal business units!

Nutreco has two business lines: Skretting is a leading global provider of innovative aquafeed solutions, revolutionizing aquaculture for a sustainable future. Trouw Nutrition specializes in animal nutrition and is committed to advancing livestock health and productivity through cutting-edge solutions. Nutreco, headquartered in Amersfoort with global operations, is supported by a Legal and E&C team of around twenty professionals. This team is responsible for managing legal and E&C risks and safeguarding Nutreco’s reputation. The team includes six BU Counsels who report to the Director Legal and M&A and the Director E&C.

As our Legal Counsel, you will manage the Legal risks and the E&C program for the business units North America and Companion Animal, and in coordination with the Director E&C be involved in investigations. You may also participate in M&A projects under the direction of the Director Legal and M&A. Additionally, you will be part of the management team of the Managing Director of the business unit North America.

This position may be based anywhere in Canada, with our head office in Guelph.

About The Role

  • Responsibilities
  • Report directly to the Director Legal and M&A (based in Madrid) and the Director E&C (based in The Netherlands)
  • Participate in the management team of the Managing Director of the business unit North America
  • Provide legal and E&C advice and support to the business units North America and Companion Animal
  • Manage outside counsel when necessary
  • Support the development and implementation of the Nutreco Legal and E&C policies, procedures, and templates
  • Conduct periodic E&C and legal risk assessments
  • Provide training on various legal and E&C topics
  • Monitor compliance with laws, regulations, and Nutreco’s policies

Skills and Expertise

  • Qualifications
    • Law degree
    • Canadian licensed lawyer or equivalent
    • 7+ years of experience in an international business environment
    • Fluent in English; knowledge of French is an asset
    • Knowledge of contract, competition, and (basic) corporate law; knowledge of food law is an asset
    • Experience in (re)drafting (international) agreements; experience in M&A activities and providing training are assets
    • Affinity with E&C work and willingness to develop in this role. Experience as an E&C Officer is an asset

  • Willingness to travel regularly throughout North America and occasionally internationally
