What you’ll do
We are seeking a Commodity Buyer to support procurement operations for our mills across Western Canada. This role is responsible for sourcing agricultural commodities and building strong vendor relationships while navigating grain markets and supply dynamics.
Procure commodities for mill operations across Western Canada
Manage and maintain relationships with existing suppliers, while identifying and onboarding new vendors
Source and purchase agricultural products, including grains and agri-based commodities directly from farms
Procure animal by-products, including fats, oils, and meat & bone meal
Execute and manage basis contracts in alignment with market conditions
Monitor and engage with the grain futures market to support purchasing decisions and risk management
Ensure timely, cost-effective procurement aligned with business needs
Who we’re looking for
3 to 4+ years of experience working as Buyer in agricultural commodity and experience in commodity- grain buying with farms
Experience in agri-business procurement, specifically grain buying
Strong understanding of commodity markets, including grain futures and basis trading
Proven experience working with farms and agricultural suppliers
Knowledge of animal by-products procurement (fats, oils, meat & bone meal) is an asset
Ability to manage multiple vendor relationships and negotiate effectively
Strong analytical and market awareness skills
Opportunity to work in a dynamic agri-commodity environment
You’ll also need
Experience working with ERP systems (SAP preferred), supported by strong computer proficiency
Strong negotiation skills with the ability to build and maintain supplier relationships
Demonstrated problem-solving abilities and sound decision-making skills
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) in a fast-paced environment
