Job Description

JOB CONTEXT: The Regulatory officer is positioned in the Quality department reporting to the Quality Manager. The level of the role relates to place in the organisation and scope (being more administrative and working along protocols up to being the link between Quality, Technical and Export managers). The regulatory officer is an expert in regulatory compliance with good communication and training skills.

JOB DESCRPTION:

Regulatory and Compliance Management

Investigate all kinds of incidents and reports and provide expert advice to management. Minimize risk exposures and ensure adherence with regulatory standards by working with all internal functions to make sure compliance programs are properly implemented.

Regulation and Registration

Collaborate internally and work as the customer champion in cross-functional teams to build strong understanding of regulation and registration requirements

Policy Development & Implementation

Help develop procedures for an area of the organization, and monitor their implementation

Administration

Work on complex administrative processes and databases to develop and test administrative procedures to ensure they are fully in line with organizational needs.

Regulatory Affairs

Deliver pre-established outcomes and/or provide support services while operating within the organization's established regulatory and governance systems and protocols.

Data Collection and Analysis

Collate and analyze data using pre-set tools, methods and formats. Involves working independently

Operational Compliance

Identify, within the team, instances of non-compliance with the organization's policies and procedures and/or relevant regulatory codes and codes of conduct, reporting these and escalating issues as appropriate.

Personal Capability Building

Develop own capabilities by participating in assessment and development planning activities as well as formal and informal training and coaching; gain or maintain external professional accreditation where relevant to improve performance and fulfill personal potential. Maintain an understanding of relevant technology, external regulation, and industry best practices through ongoing education, attending conferences, and reading specialist media.

KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS:

  • Compliance with Nutreco’s standards and policies.
  • Compliance with all relevant regulations / Audit /export requirements.
  • Execution of the regulatory objectives and strategy 
  • Reporting on key indicators, key controls and regulatory compliance standards.   
  • Preparedness of Nutreco companies for new and existing feed, food, veterinary, environmental & trade legislation. 
  • Successful registered and/or authorized (new) ingredients and/or products.
  • Successful regulatory assessed products and concepts in the processes and projects.
  • Efficiency & effectiveness authorization & registration process (e.g. speed of dossier compilation and throughput at governmental organizations, quality of dossiers).
  • Quality of support and advice to management / business.
  • Number of successfully resolved non-compliance incidents. 

Qualifications:

  • Relevant bachelor’s Degree in life sciences
  • Knowledge of feed, food, environmental and veterinary legislation; focus on ‘product registrations’ 
  • Capable of integrating regulatory, IP, R&D, operation, quality and marketing
  • Understanding the role of regulatory in innovation
  • Understanding the animal feed & livestock sector and relevant stakeholders 
  • Strong analytical skills and communication skills
  • Advanced understanding of Act 36 non-negotiable
  • Understanding of SADC countries regulations will be advantageous
