HSE Lead R&D

Job Description

Why join us

Get ready to Own your impact as an HSE Lead at Nutreco, an SHV company. As global leaders in animal nutrition and aquafeed, our purpose of Feeding the Future drives everything we do.

At our Boxmeer sites, you’ll work at the intersection of research, innovation and operations -  from cutting-edge R&D to a Masterlab and Cell Feed pilot plant, where new ideas are translated into real-world solutions for sustainable animal nutrition.

To make that innovation possible, we need safety to be fully embedded in daily operations. In this role, you’ll ensure that innovation thrives safely by driving the continuous improvement of our HSE Management System. Much of the foundation is already in place, so your focus will be on executing, embedding and strengthening it on the ground.

You’ll combine hands-on operational support with responsibility for compliance, regulatory coordination and prevention activities, making a visible impact across teams and facilities. Own your impact. Own your leadership. Own your safety culture.

What you’ll do

  • Drive the execution and improvement of HSE practices across our Boxmeer facilities

  • Act as the designated Preventiemedewerker and ensure compliance with Dutch HSE/ARBO and environmental legislation

  • Partner with operational teams to identify risks and implement practical safety improvements on the work floor

  • Drive a proactive safety culture through coaching, engagement and visible leadership

  • Investigate incidents and use insights to strengthen preventive actions

  • Coordinate audits, inspections and regulatory interactions, ensuring full compliance and readiness

Who we’re looking for
We’re looking for someone who takes ownership, connects easily with operational teams and knows how to translate HSE requirements into practical actions. To build strong relationships and drive change on-site, you’ll be present in Boxmeer five days per week initially, with the possibility to move towards a more balanced setup over time.
You’ll bring:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in HSE, Engineering or a related field

  • Around 6–8 years of experience in operational, laboratory or manufacturing environments

  • Strong knowledge of Dutch HSE/ARBO and environmental legislation

  • Experience with HSE management systems, risk assessments and compliance processes

  • Confidence to work independently and influence stakeholders across different levels

  • Strong communication skills in Dutch and English and the ability to work closely with different teams on-site

It’s a plus if you have:

  • HVK (or equivalent) qualification

  • Experience in R&D, lab or pilot plant environments

  • Exposure to behavioural safety and continuous improvement initiatives

What you’ll receive

  • As part of Nutreco, you’ll be part of the SHV family, a global network of businesses with a strong long-term focus. You’ll benefit from:

  • A collaborative and international working environment

  • Competitive salary and benefits

  • 30 vacation days

  • An annual variable bonus

  • Ongoing learning and development opportunities within Nutreco and SHV
