About The Role:
The Electrician carries out maintenance and repair work to electrical or/and mechanical installations or equipment (such as production machinery, rotating equipment, electrical installations, transport systems, buildings, facilities and constructions), so that technical assignments are carried out on time, safely and according to specifications in order to support the optimal running of production
The Electrician operates within a production / technical department, with a focus on execution of preventive and corrective maintenance. The main purpose of the job of a Maintenance Technician is to prevent any malfunction of the equipment, apparatus, machinery or systems that are used in the production process.
The Electrician may also support other facilities than production, such as R&D laboratories, office facilities as well as technical buildings (utilities) and systems for logistics and storage. The job takes care of any trouble shooting in order to keep to production process running, and carries out tasks to prevent future disturbances.
The job may be limited to one single technical discipline (such as construction, mechanical, rotating, electrical), or may be more skilled so that apart from one major technical discipline, the Maintenance Technician is able to deal with issues in related technical areas. Depending on the size of the facility, the number of Maintenance Technicians may vary in technical disciplines and expertise levels.
At the highest job level, the “all round” Electrician is capable of dealing with any of the issues that might occur, troubleshooting and solving technical issues in an expert role.
Responsibilities:
- Responds to and problem solves & repairs machine breakdowns.
- Adhere to safety procedures such as Lock-Out/Tag-Out, elevated work, confined space, etc.
- Apply electrical theory to determine root causes of failures and their corrective actions.
- Work with other maintenance & engineering personnel to accomplish repair, PM and project tasks.
- Perform preventative maintenance tasks, report and or make necessary repairs.
- Interpret electrical schematics & PLC programs.
- Conduit installation and wire sizing.
- Understands the functions of electrical and electro-mechanical items such as sensors, relays, limit switches, flow switches, valves etc.
- Troubleshooting of relay logic, PLCs and AC/DC drives from various manufacturers.
- Troubleshooting and preventative maintenance of motors up to 2400VAC and 500VDC.
- Troubleshooting of an entire electrical system with HDMI’s/VFD’s to determine root cause of either mechanical or electrical failures, (example of actuator valves not opening, is it the program, the actuator or the valve).
- Use electrical testing equipment such as digital multimeters, insulation testers, thermal imagers etc.
- Operate mobile equipment such as Forklifts, scissor and articulating lifts as needed to perform work.
- Use computer MRO system to perform work orders, preventative maintenance tasks and search inventory for spare components.
- Ability to work from heights and in confined spaces.
- Ability to work in cold/hot weather and outside (when necessary) year-round.
Skills and Expertise
Qualifications:
- High school diploma.
- Minimum of 4 years’ experience as an electrician in manufacturing.
- Minimum 1 years PLC Control Work.
- Knowledge of Servos.
- Experience with VFD Drives and HMI systems.
- Strong electrical and mechanical aptitude.
- Ability to read Schematics and blueprints.
- Minimum 2years 3PH/480 electrical troubleshooting experience.
- Availability to work weekends when required.
- Availability to work off shifts when required.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Degree in Electrical Engineering/Indiana Licensed Electrician/Journeyman’s card
- Allen Bradley PLC programming knowledge.
- Programming of HMI controls for new systems and or improvements.
- New machine installation background.
- Minimum 2 years 3PH/480 electrical troubleshooting experience.
- Mechanical experience with pneumatics, rotary gearbox’s, pumps a plus.
- Welding and fabrication a plus but not required.
